Shop Operations Associate

Retail sales, customer service & shop support

As a Shop Operations Associate, you help customers feel welcome, find the right products, and have a positive experience with Portsmouth Scuba.

This is a retail store position, not a diving or service-technician position. Scuba experience is welcome but is not required.

What you will do

• Customer service: Greet customers, listen to their needs, answer questions within your product knowledge, and connect them with the appropriate team member when more expertise is needed.
• Retail sales: Learn our products, explain features and options accurately, help customers compare choices, and make thoughtful recommendations without guessing about technical or safety questions.
• Register & shop systems: Process sales and payments, enter customer information accurately, and follow shop procedures for returns, discounts, and transaction records.
• Merchandise & inventory: Receive and check deliveries, price and stock merchandise, maintain displays, and assist with inventory counts and identifying stock needs.
• Daily shop care: Keep sales areas, displays, counters, and assigned workspaces clean, organized, and ready for customers. Assist with opening and closing duties as assigned.
• Team support: Help with customer messages, basic booking or registration support, and equipment drop-off or pickup according to established procedures and training.
• Other shop duties: Assist with other reasonable shop duties assigned by management, within your training and authorization.

Work environment & expectations

The role includes customer-facing work, time standing and moving around the store, and handling merchandise. Follow safe handling practices, use available assistance, and report hazards or damaged equipment promptly. Essential duties may be performed with reasonable accommodation.

Follow shop policies, protect customer information, and treat customers and coworkers with respect. Equipment repairs, cylinder inspections, breathing-gas filling, and in-water instruction are not general retail assignments; any specialized work requires the appropriate training, qualifications, and management authorization.

Schedule & supervision

Weekend and summer availability is required. Applicants must be available to work weekend shifts and during the summer season.

Work is performed in the shop under the direction of shop management. Share your preferred hours and any scheduling limitations in the application. Specific shifts, hours, and compensation will be discussed during the hiring process.
